Blockchain: Is it a hoax?  117

Multiple IT companies are now training their employees, with good pro-

gramming skills, on blockchain privately to create a centre of excellence

(CoE) within their organisation.

University courses on blockchain

As blockchain is getting massive popularity, most universities around the

globe would like to launch blockchain courses. Usually, the blockchain

module becomes part of the bachelor’s or master’s degree course. Some

universities are even launching a dedicated course on blockchain.

The following are some of the reasons behind launching blockchain

courses/modules by universities:

• Attract national and international students.

• Make the existing degree courses more attractive by including block-

chain modules.

• Assist the industry by producing skilled resources on the blockchain.

• Build innovative culture within the university.

• Produce entrepreneurs.

• Improve the university brand name by attaining patents in blockchain

technology.

• Assisting Governments by improving practical and innovative educa-

tion. This in effect improves employment opportunities for students.

• Collaborate with businesses in producing skilled students with upcom-

ing disruptive technologies like blockchain.

In September 2022, CoinDesk (www.coindesk.com) released a report on

top universities for Blockchain courses (Figure 4.4): (https://www.coindesk.

Sample size: CoinDesk rated 240 schools internationally.

Training courses from private institutes

There has been an explosion of private training courses, free as well as

paid ones, on the blockchain. I will list some of the best free as well as paid

courses in this section. In my opinion, the best way to learn blockchain

from a technical perspective is to learn, practise and create a proof of con-

cept (POC) or proof of value (POV).
